Book Management Update

Two very exciting developments in the struggle against tsundoku! Well… Ok…one very exciting one and one very, very moderately interesting one.

Since the basement was offline being rehabbed after a water leak, we had to move everything out anyway. This opened up some space (as it were) for Wendy to hire someone to replace our long-serving but crowded and slightly ratty Ikea bookshelves with built-in shelving. Including LED lighting.

That’s a phenomenal set of shelves.

Sadly, I can’t think there’ll be a lot of times when turning the LEDs to the deep red setting and putting them on “pulse” will be useful. But I’ll be prepared if that time comes.

More seriously, this is a complete tribute to the imagination of my phenomenal spouse!

When putting everything back together, I also took advantage of having everything out to do a cull of the collection. This was initially a little harder to do than it probably should have been. With a little time and momentum, though, it turned out (obviously) fine. It also made space for me to clear out the “extra” storage of books from the office and—mostly—from the bedroom. So double win.

Adios, books…

In this shot, the collection is down to probably 50% of what it had originally been.

The long-suffering but resourceful spouse found a Facebook group or something similar for people in our area who are interested in trading things. She uploaded a couple of pictures of the piles of books, and people started messaging back asking for specific ones. It was great. The remainder are probably headed for donation.

At any rate, a great start to the New Year…
